Every material has been chosen for a purpose. It must provide comfort, support, breathability or durability while meeting our commitment to healthier, more natural living.

Certified Organic Natural Latex
Natural latex begins as milky sap harvested from the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis.
Unlike polyurethane and synthetic latex, natural rubber does not begin with petroleum-based raw materials.
Our latex is produced in Sri Lanka using the Dunlop method. The natural rubber comes from organically certified plantations owned by our supplier.
The rubber-polymer content is entirely natural rubber. It is not blended with synthetic latex, petroleum-based fillers, ash or chalk.
What Does GOLS Certification Mean?
GOLS stands for the Global Organic Latex Standard.
This independent certification verifies the organic origin of natural rubber latex. It also covers manufacturing, emissions, harmful-substance limits and traceability throughout the supply chain.
GOLS-certified latex foam contains permitted processing ingredients because raw liquid latex cannot become stable foam by itself. This is different from blending natural rubber with synthetic latex.
Control Union explains that GOLS also covers polymer content, filler percentages and environmental and social requirements.
This provides meaningful reassurance about where the latex comes from and how it is produced.
Why Natural Latex Feels Different
Natural latex combines support with gentle pressure relief.
Its natural elasticity allows it to follow your body while continuing to support you from underneath. You rest on the mattress instead of sinking deeply into it.
Latex responds independently to different areas of the body. This helps support your spine while cushioning heavier areas, including your hips and shoulders.
Research comparing mattress materials found that latex distributed pressure more evenly than polyurethane foam across several sleeping positions.
Latex also feels buoyant and responsive. It makes changing positions easier and avoids the trapped feeling some people experience with memory foam.
Breathable Comfort Throughout the Year
Natural latex contains an open structure that allows air to move through the mattress.
This breathability helps heat and moisture disperse instead of remaining trapped close to your body.
When combined with wool and organic fabric, latex creates a balanced sleeping environment. Your bed feels warm in winter and more breathable during summer.
No mattress can guarantee freedom from allergies, mould or dust mites. Bedding, humidity, ventilation and cleaning also affect the sleeping environment.
However, breathable materials help keep the bed drier and less hospitable to unwanted moisture and mould growth.
Lasting Support and Long-Term Value
Natural latex is one of the most durable cushioning materials available for mattresses.
It repeatedly compresses and returns to its original shape. This resilience helps it maintain support and resist premature sagging or deep body impressions.
With the correct bed base and appropriate care, a quality latex mattress can remain comfortable for many years.
Natural latex may cost more initially than synthetic foam. However, its durability can provide excellent value across thousands of nights.
A Short History of Natural Rubber
Indigenous peoples of Central and South America were using natural rubber long before it became known in Europe.
Europeans later recorded seeing rubber balls that bounced far better than the inflated leather balls familiar to them.
Charles Goodyear developed the vulcanisation process during the nineteenth century. This discovery made natural rubber stronger, more elastic and suitable for many new uses.
In 1876, Henry Wickham transported thousands of rubber-tree seeds from Brazil to Britain. Some seedlings were later sent to Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia.
Those plantings helped establish the Asian natural-rubber industry that exists today.
How Our Organic Natural Latex Cores Are Made
Our supplier uses the Dunlop production method to transform liquid natural latex into resilient mattress and pillow cores.
1. Harvesting
Latex sap is collected from rubber trees on organically certified plantations in Sri Lanka.
Tapping does not require the tree to be cut down. A healthy tree can continue producing latex over many years.
2. Foaming
The liquid latex is mechanically whipped with air. Changing the balance of latex and air creates different densities and firmness levels.
Small amounts of permitted vulcanising and processing ingredients are necessary to produce stable foam.
3. Moulding and vulcanising
The foamed latex is poured into a mould and heated.
Heat allows the rubber particles to bond, creating a stable and resilient mattress core or pillow.
4. Washing
After vulcanising, the latex core is removed from its mould and washed thoroughly.
This process removes residual soaps and processing residues. Thorough washing also supports the durability and stability of the finished foam.
5. Drying
The washed core moves slowly through a controlled dryer until the remaining water has evaporated.
6. Testing and inspection
Each core is tested for firmness and density. It is also weighed, trimmed and inspected for visual or physical imperfections.
7. Cutting and fabrication
We cut the finished latex in our Auckland factory to create the required mattress size, thickness and layer arrangement.
This flexibility allows us to produce standard mattresses and custom sizes for boats, motorhomes, unusual bed frames and other special spaces.
Pure New Zealand Wool
Wool is beautifully suited to New Zealand’s changing climate.
Wool fibres are hygroscopic, which means they absorb and release moisture vapour from the surrounding air.
Woolmark reports that wool can absorb up to 35% of its weight before feeling wet.
This moisture-management ability helps create a drier and more balanced sleeping environment.
Wool also provides gentle cushioning and natural temperature regulation. It helps your bed feel warm in winter without becoming heavy or clammy.
We use pure NZ wool in our mattresses, futons, pillows and bedding products.
Wool is also naturally more difficult to ignite than many common synthetic fibres. It chars rather than melting or dripping.
Organic Cotton and Hemp Fabric
Our mattress and futon covers use a carefully selected blend of organic cotton and hemp.
The fabric contains 45% organic cotton and 55% hemp. This combination provides softness, strength and breathability.
Cotton feels comfortable and familiar, while hemp adds durability and stability. Hemp also helps the fabric perform well in New Zealand’s humid climate.
We use this fabric for our mattresses, futons and selected sleeping products.
Its natural colour comes from leaving the fibres unbleached. This creates an honest, understated finish that reflects the materials themselves.
Organic Buckwheat Husks
We use organic buckwheat husks in our adjustable pillows, meditation cushions and pregnancy bolsters.
Our husks come from an organic farm in New Zealand’s South Island.
Buckwheat husks move freely inside the cover but remain stable once shaped.
You can add, remove or reposition the filling to adjust the pillow’s height and firmness.
A side sleeper may prefer a higher, firmer shape. A back sleeper may need a lower profile with gentle neck support.
Once positioned, the husks hold their shape without collapsing around your head.
The spaces between the husks allow air to circulate. This creates a fresh, naturally breathable pillow with a distinctive, supportive feel.
Buckwheat husks also make a gentle, soothing sound when they move. Many people enjoy their natural, slightly textured character.
TENCEL™ Fibres
TENCEL™ is a plant-derived fibre made from regenerated wood cellulose.
It is not a raw natural fibre like wool or cotton. However, it begins with responsibly sourced wood and uses a highly controlled production process.
TENCEL™ Lyocell is produced through a closed-loop system that recovers and reuses most of the processing solvent.
The finished fibre feels smooth and soft. It also supports moisture control and helps maintain a naturally dry feeling.
We use TENCEL™ in mattress protectors and selected bedding products where softness, breathability and moisture management are especially valuable.
Vegan Options Are Available
We understand that some customers prefer products without animal-derived materials.
Our vegan options can use natural latex, organic cotton and hemp fabric, TENCEL™ and solid timber.
We leave out wool and silk when creating a vegan product.

Natural Materials, Handcrafted in Auckland
Choosing natural materials is only one part of creating an excellent bed. The way those materials are assembled is equally important.
We cut, layer, sew and finish our products by hand in our New Lynn factory.
Our mattress construction contains no polyurethane foam, solvent-based glues, added chemical flame retardants or formaldehyde-based adhesives.
Instead of gluing the internal layers, we carefully assemble and hand-stitch them. This helps keep the mattress stable while maintaining a simple, transparent construction.
We can also customise the dimensions, firmness and layer arrangement to meet your individual requirements.
